Greetings fellow commmunicators!

Have you ever noticed your heart rate increase when you see
someone doing something unsafe or an unsafe condition even when
it isn't in your area of responsibility? I suspect that it is
because you are passionate about safety. You don't want to see
anyone injured anywhere. If passion is what drives you I believe
you will be successful and satisfied in your work. I can attest
to this because I feel the same way when I am watching a
presentation at a conference or corporate meeting. When the
audience isn't being reached or is missing the message for some
reason, I can feel my heart rate increase.
Another reason I think you find your body reacting to what you
see, is that you know the potential incident is completely
preventable. After all, if you could see it so could someone else
and they could prevent the injury or incident. When I watch a
presentation that is failing for some reason, I ache inside
because it it entirely preventable. As I write this, I am sitting
in the audience of a presentation where over 75% of the audience
can't see the outstanding demonstration on which someone worked very
hard.

The best advice I can give you for effective presentations is
to do something I have done for years. Sit in the chairs in which your
audience will sit. Have someone sit in front of you and look
to see what your audience will be able to see. I have seen over
and over again someone spend hours preparing a great
presentation, either a power point presentation or a great visual
demonstration only to have most of the audience unable to see
what is going on. What is the result? They feel left out they
will try to keep up for awhile but eventually they will give up.
You have now lost that part of yor audience and no matter how
great your point or how important your lesson they aren't going
to get it. If they can't hear you or see you then you aren't
communicating effectively.

Yours in Service,
John Drebinger

P.S.
HEY VETERAN BUMPER STICKER UPDATE!
MAGNETIC BUMPER STICKERS NOW AVAILABLE ($5.99each)

If you missed one of my last few issues please read the
following.

Some of my long-time readers remember that I
have for years had a personal project where I call three
veterans I know each and every Veteran's Day and thank them for
their service to our country and for providing my freedom.

Afterall, if it weren't for them we would certainly be living
under the tyranny of some other country less committed to
freedom than we are as a people.

As a result of this project, I came up with an idea. I wondered
how we could continue to thank veterans and support our troops
long after they returned home. The solution is a bumper sticker
that reads,

"Hey Veteran, Thanks For My Freedom".

I think when the idea catches on, veterans of years past and
today's brave soldiers will realize how much we appreciate them
every time they see a car drive by with one in place. If you
would like to join me in thanking our veterans for their service
and, quite frankly, our freedom, please order one and put it on
each of your vehicles. You may even want to buy a few to give
to the veterans you know at work.

They are red, white, and blue and are 11.5" x 3" in size,
printed on vinyl. The cost is only $2.99 each and we pay the
shipping. The magnetic version is $5.99 each and free shipping.
Go to http://www.thanksvet.com and get yours now.

Twenty-five percent of the
profits from this project will be donated to veterans' service
organizations. For an update of how much has been donated,
a special page on our website will be updated with our results .

Join us in thanking every veteran in this country!
Go to http://www.thanksvet.com and order several bumper
stickers for your cars, your friends, and as a gift to any
veterans you know.

We would appreciate it if you cut and pasted this notice into an
email you could send to your personal mailing list. If you need
any information you can contact us at office@thanksvet.com We
are however only set up to take online orders unless you need
quantities over 100.
Thanks for your help spreading the thanks across this wonderful
country of ours to the men and women who make it possible.

When you forward this to your friends would you please cc me so
I can track how far the idea is spreading and what level of
response we are getting.
