Greetings my friends!
How has your year been so far? I hope it has been a great first
quarter for the safety of all those you are charged with
protecting. So far, we have had our best year ever and you keep
calling in with more and more speaking dates. If you have been
wondering how my weight reduction program is going, you will get
a look at the upcoming ASSE PDC in Seattle or other upcoming
dates. Also, you can go to my website www.drebinger.com and look
at a video segment from our new demo DVD. I'm smaller in the
video than I used to be and I am smaller still today.

As my regular readers know, last May, my mom passed
away and this last January my dad joined her. I was in San
Francisco at a seminar when I got the call from his doctor. I
immediately drove over the coastal mountains to Half Moon Bay
and watched people surfing for about a half an hour. Dad and
I surfed for many years as I was growing up and it was great to
watch as I was reminded of all the great years we had together.
At times like this, my relationship with God and the wonderful
life He gave me with such great parents made the whole
experience much easier to deal with. In fact, I have a
greater understanding of the Biblical phrase, "the Peace that
passes all understanding," than I ever did before. In some ways,
it seemed strange to be at such peace in the midst of such a
loss but my faith led me to focus on gratitude for all God has
given me and my family and the sacrifice He made so we could
all be together one day.

On a safety note, my dad and I were part of a very few surfers
who wore surfing helmets. My mom always insisted we wear them as
she knew my dad's Harvard PhD wouldn't do us any good if he
were smacked on the head by a heavy surfboard. I am also sure
she did not want to see her only child injured. Well, the
tradition lives on. Just one month after my dad passed away, I
took my son on a "Surfing Safari," to Southern California. I
brought out the old boards my dad and I used and he had two high
school friends come along. As you know, I have been trimming
down in size and I purchased my first wetsuit since 1970 before
we left. We hit the beach at Santa Monica wearing our Kayaking
helmets to keep us safe. There are times in life I know God is
helping me teach my children and this day was one of them. After
teaching him the basics, I sent my son out to the breakers and
he paddled into his first real wave. He caught it, stood up, and
promptly pushed the nose of the surfboard into the ocean. This
resulted in his first wipeout. He hit the water and the board
disappeared under the wave. Suddenly the board rose above the
water and flew into the air. What goes up, must come down, and
down it came. I saw him come out of the surf and get back on
the board which he brought into shore. He quickly exclaimed to
me, "Boy, was I glad I had that helmet on. The board hit me
right on the back of the head and would have killed me!" I now
know he is motivated to wear one even when dad isn't around to
tell him to.

How many safety stories do you and your employees have just like
the one I told above? There are hundreds of stories out there
and they teach safety with a real impact that gets results. Keep
reading future issues where I will address some methods for
spotting potential safety stories and how to develop them.

Next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I will be speaking in Hawaii.
If you want to drop by and hear me, you can call Diane Weiss at
my office 1-800-588-9419 to see if she can get you a seat. In
the next few weeks, I will be in Sacramento, California;
Delaware City, Delaware; Sacramento again and then Evendale,
Ohio; Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; Homewood, Illinois;
Birmingham, Alabama; and that's all in the month of April. You
have all blessed me with a great successful year last year and
this year is surpassing it already. It is because of your
recommendations to your colleagues and friends that I am able to
continue to share my message of safety around the country. Thank
you for the privelege of serving you and your employees.

Yours in Service,
John Drebinger

PS:
HEY VETERAN BUMPER STICKER UPDATE!
MAGNETIC BUMPER STICKERS NOW AVAILABLE ($5.99each)

If you missed one of my last few issues please read the
following.

Some of my long-time readers remember that I
have for years had a personal project where I call three
veterans I know each and every Veteran's Day and thank them for
their service to our country and for providing my freedom.

Afterall, if it weren't for them we would certainly be living
under the tyranny of some other country less committed to
freedom than we are as a people.

As a result of this project, I came up with an idea. I wondered
how we could continue to thank veterans and support our troops
long after they returned home. The solution is a bumper sticker
that reads,

"Hey Veteran, Thanks For My Freedom".

I think when the idea catches on, veterans of years past and
today's brave soldiers will realize how much we appreciate them
every time they see a car drive by with one in place. If you
would like to join me in thanking our veterans for their service
and, quite frankly, our freedom, please order one and put it on
each of your vehicles. You may even want to buy a few to give
to the veterans you know at work.

They are red, white, and blue and are 11.5" x 3" in size,
printed on vinyl. The cost is only $2.99 each and we pay the
shipping. The magnetic version is $5.99 each and free shipping.
Go to http://www.thanksvet.com and get yours now.

Twenty-five percent of the
profits from this project will be donated to veterans' service
organizations. For an update of how much has been donated,
a special page on our website will be updated with our results .

Join us in thanking every veteran in this country!
Go to http://www.thanksvet.com and order several bumper
stickers for your cars, your friends, and as a gift to any
veterans you know.

We would appreciate it if you cut and pasted this notice into an
email you could send to your personal mailing list. If you need
any information you can contact us at office@thanksvet.com We
are however only set up to take online orders unless you need
quantities over 100.
Thanks for your help spreading the thanks across this wonderful
country of ours to the men and women who make it possible.

When you forward this to your friends would you please cc me so
I can track how far the idea is spreading and what level of
response we are getting.
