During this time of year we are headed toward many holiday company parties. I'm not just talking about your company party I'm talking about the parties happening every night between
now and New Years in every town in every state in this country. You can take responsibility for making sure your employees leave with a designated driver if alcohol is part of the event but you can't control whether or not people at other parties are as responsible. Now is a good time to remind your employees to buckle up themselves and their families. After all what a tragedy to loose someone to a drunk driver.
Another note of caution. On the radio in Sacramento there is an afternoon talk show host who is a financial advisor. He has also served on the California Highway Patrol. Every so often I have heard him warn people to avoid driving in the fast lane at night unless you can see tail lights in front of you. The reason he shares is that drunk drivers who choose to get behind the wheel often times will drive slowly to avoid problems with the police or in their warped perception they think if they are driving slower they are safe. The problem is that drunk drivers are also most likely to be wrong way drivers, meaning a driver who has entered the freeway going in the wrong direction
They move to what they think is the slow lane which is on their right but in fact they are going the wrong way in the fast lane. The hazard is increased by the fact that many drunk drivers will forget to turn on their headlamps. This results in someone approaching you completely dark and of course they don't have reflectors on the front of the car for your headlights to illuminate. The result you discover them much too late to take evasive action. So stay alert wear your seatbelt and enjoy the holidays with your family.
