One of the best ways to reward people for safe behavior is simply to say thank you.
-Thank you for working safely.
-Thank you for being a great example for your fellow employees.
-Thank you for caring enough about yourself and your family to work safely.
It would be important to realize you need to thank people in a way they would appreciate. My friend,Scott Geller has often taught, "reward people in public with their permission." This is important as some people are uncomfortable with public recognition.
While on the subject of thanking people I would like to share with you a project of giving thanks I have been doing for many years. I have three friends who served in the military and every Veterans Day I make it a point to call them and thank them for their service to our country. While I have been safe at home they have been willing to put themselves in harm's way to uphold our freedom.
I was thinking that if I could share this idea with others many more of the men and women who are serving or have served our country would be thanked. Think of a few of your friends and
associates who are veterans and give them a call.
One other note...Give the "thank you" in person or on the phone. A written thank you letter is great, but I like the personal contact. Emails are too informal to be as effective.
For those of you who are veterans, thank you very much for your dedication and service to our great country. God bless you and God bless America.
Have a dynamically safe day,
John Drebinger
